3 Weeks and Counting

by | Mar 29, 2011 |

After racing in the NYC half marathon I headed back to Palo Alto, California for a week of sea level training and to watch Sara run in the Stanford Invitational 3,000 meter steeplechase. It was great to be back on campus running my usual loops and getting in a few faster speed sessions. It was also fun getting settled into our spring training house just steps away from campus, where we have so many great memories.

One of our new roommates is a chef. Even though it has only been a week he has already taught me a few cooking tips (like that soft scrambled eggs over low heat are ridiculous and that fish sauce in fried rice adds a nice flavor to the dish). It seems like every time I walk into the house some gourmet food is being created.

I have always wondered what it would be like to be a chef. Sounds like, as in most jobs, it has its stressful moments but I think being able to create tasty foods that brings people together is a skill worth having. While, I don’t plan to attend culinary school anytime soon I am definitely inspired to learn more in the kitchen. Who knows, maybe in ten years Sara and I will have a running specialty restaurant.
